Mr Ian Teo

Ian Teo is one of the founding directors of Helmsman LLC and a recognised authority in commercial law, combining extensive expertise in general commercial matters with specialised knowledge in shipping and commodities. His notable achievements include being named a Disputes Star by Benchmark Litigation, recognised as one of Asia’s 50 Super Disputes Lawyers by Asia Legal Business. He is also cited in Chambers Asia Pacific and Global, Legal 500 and Best Lawyers for his expertise in commodities, shipping, commercial litigation and international arbitration.

Additionally, he has been acknowledged by Euromoney Expert Guides as one of the world’s 30 Best Shipping Lawyers and was named Trade Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers Singapore.

Qualified to practise in Singapore, England, and Wales, he earned his LL.B from the National University of Singapore and his LL.M from Cambridge University. He is a member of the adjunct faculty at Singapore Management University, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration, and an Adjunct Fellow at the NUS Centre for Maritime Law, contributing regularly to academic publications such as Lloyd's Maritime & Commercial Quarterly.
