Last week on 24 and 25 June 2022 Singapore received a visit from an economic delegation from UAE led by the Assistant Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Dr Abdulnasser Alshaali. His Excellency was accompanied by representatives from various ministries including the Ministries of Finance, Education and Economy. The delegation also included other UAE organisations including UAE University, Ajman Chamber, Masdar, ADGM and Thuraya Telecomms. The 2-day itinerary for the delegation included site visits and meetings with agencies and companies who play a key role within the UAE-Singapore business nexus including GlobalFoundries and UAE Singapore Business Council.
On Friday, 24th June, the delegation toured GlobalFoundries' new 23,000-square-meters of cleanroom space which is part of its US$4B (S$5B) investment to expand its Singapore campus to meet the increase in demand for GF-made semiconductor chips.
On the final day of their visit, the delegation met the UAESBC EXCO members for a roundtable discussion. The roundtable began with EXCO members introducing their companies and their role in the UAE and/or the APAC region. This was followed by an interesting and engaging discussion discussing pertinent bilateral issues for businesses and investors. The roundtable was hosted by the UAESBC at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
