Wed, 7 Dec: The UAE Singapore Business Council (UAESBC) and the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) were honoured to host His Excellency Majid Al Suwaidi, Director-General of COP28 UAE Presidency, as our Keynote Speaker at a webinar entitled UAE Investment Workshop 2022: Sustainability in the United Arab Emirates. The event was also graced by His Excellency Jamal Al Suwaidi, the UAE Ambassador to Singapore and the Patron of the UAESBC.
In his Welcome Address, His Excellency Jamal spoke about the legacy of sustainability throughout the UAE leadership and reiterated its importance by stating that "Sustainability is an engine of growth for the economy."
The Keynote Speaker, His Excellency Majid Al Suwaidi, is UAE's Lead Climate Change Negotiator who played a key role in the negotiation and adoption of the landmark Paris Agreement in 2015. In his Keynote Speech, His Excellency Majid, said "COP28 (in the UAE) will be the most significant climate conference event since Paris." He also deliberated on the key mandates to be achieved during COP28 which include the "Global Stock-Take" since the signing of the Paris Climate Accord; the "Global Goal on Adaptation" as well as issues related to energy.
Following His Excellencies speeches the webinar commenced by featuring presentations from four UAE companies who are leading the way for sustainability implementation in their respective fields namely: Masdar, ADNOC, Etihad Airways and Borouge. The representatives of each company shared their pioneering, impactful and innovative strategies and also addressed questions from the audience.
Following the presentations, there was a panel discussion moderated by UAESBC President, Dr Brian Shegar, with representatives of Singapore companies in the sector made up of members of UAESBC and SEAS, namely: Atelier Ten, Sembcorp, AirCarbon Exchange and Resync Technologies. The panel talked about their sustainable solutions and projects and recognised the potential of the UAE market for Singapore companies in the sector.
The webinar concluded with Closing Remarks by SEAS Chairman, Mr Edwin Khew, who shared his positive impression of UAE's global position on sustainability and announced a joint collaboration with UAESBC to organise a business mission to the UAE in 2023.
